Tonight, 20-year-old Allisha Thompson, a pregnant mother-to-be who is only days away from delivering her newborn, is lucky to be home. That's after she was charged in connection with marijuana and possession of a single illegal bullet.

At about 7:00 last night searched for illegal firearms and drugs at a home on Neals Penn Road. During their sweep, they found a bag with suspected cannabis. A further search led to the discovery of one live round of ammunition.

Present at the time of the search were Thompson, her common-law husband 20-year-old Edwin Alexander Deras, and her mother 38-year-old Jessica Sanchez. All three were arrested and charged with the offense of keeping unlicensed ammunition and possession of 35 grams - about an ounce - of cannabis. Fortunately for the two women, Deras accepted guilt for the illegal items.

Here are a few more details from their attorney Norman Rodriguez:

Deras who pleaded guilty for the weed and the bullet is also lucky that he isn't spending several years in prison. The presiding Magistrate explained to him that he had several mitigating factors in his favor: He had no previous convictions for similar offenses, he expressed remorse, saved the court's time from a full trial, and so she had to give him a lighter sentence.

For the offense of keeping ammunition Deras was fined $40. For the weed, he was fined $350. He must pay by May 31, 2022, and in default, he will spend 3 months in prison for each offense.
