In 2015 - armed robbers killed businessman Ruben Perez inside his office on Vernon Street - where he sold aggregates and cement blocks. It was caught on surveillance footage when one of the men shot him at close range and then stole his cell phone and some coins.

Two men were accused and in February of this year, the alleged gunman 30 year old Tyrone Reid pleaded guilty to save himself jail time. Today, Supreme Court Justice Ricardo O'Neal Sandcroft started his sentence at 31 years.

He then deducted 6 years of the sentence for Reid's guilty plea which takes it to 25 years. He then deducted Reid's time spent on remand, which is 6 years 5 months, which leaves a balance of 18 years and 7months renaming. Reid must serve a minimum of 12 of these years before he is eligible for parole.

The other accused, Keon Dennison has maintained a not guilty plea and his trial has also concluded. Justice Ricardo Sandcroft has reserved his ruling for a later date.
