Natalie Nicole Palacio, a 30-year-old resident of Mahogany Heights Village, is out on bail tonight. That's after she was taken to court for the charge of maim - allegedly committed against her own 7 year old son. She is accused of striking the boy with knife which injured one of his hands and his left eye.

In a report given to police on March 2, the child, in the presence of his 44-year-old father, told police that on February 14th, 2022, he was at a neighbor's house along with his mother who struck him several times to the face and hand with a knife. According to the child's father, since the lashing, he has been complaining of pain and partial loss of vision in his left eye.

Police investigated the report, and they have since arrested and charged Palacio with the offense of maim. She was arraigned today before Magistrate Khiana Gordon. No plea was taken, and the magistrate informed her that maim is an indictable offense. After careful consideration, the Magistrate granted her bail in the sum $8,000 dollars.

During her arraignment, Palacio claimed that the only reason she spanked her son was because his actions caused his sibling, a baby, to fall to the ground and burst his head. She also questioned how it was that a 7-year-old could make a report. That's when she was informed that the child was legally allowed to do so if he is in the presence of a parent. In this instance, he was with his father.

As part of her bail conditions, she must stay away from her 7-year-old son until the case is disposed of. He is in the care of his father at this time, after an assessment by social services.
