Two teenagers are out on bail after allegedly assaulting a police officer. 18-year-old Tyree Staine and a 17-year-old minor were arraigned yesterday evening before Magistrate Baja Shoman. They were read a single charge of wounding and while Staine pleaded not guilty, the minor pleaded guilty but gave an explanation.

He told the court that on April 3rd, he was having a sleepover with Staine when the officer, 34-year-old Luis Santoya - who had reportedly been drinking - attacked him while he was heading to the bathroom. The minor then said he had to hold the officer down to restrain him.

Based on his explanation, Magistrate Shoman entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and offered bail to both boys in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount.

In his report to the police, Santoya claimed that he went to his apartment and found a group of men in front of his room smoking weed. He reportedly told them to stop and that's when two of the men attacked him, causing an injury to the left side of his chin.

Both teenagers are due back in court on June 21st.
