This week in the southern session of the Supreme Court, Shane Bennett has been in the Punta Gorda Town court house on trial for the murder of Anthony Parks - which happened in Independence Village in January of 2020.

In the trial without jury before Justice Antonette Moore - the verdict was handed down today - and Bennett was found guilty.

That was around 11:30 - but, minutes later as the judge was setting a date for sentencing, Bennett bounded out of the dock - and dashed from the courtroom unto the street - making a mad dash escape.

But, within minutes, police had apprehended and subdued him. Corporal Gregory Cayetano ran him down and took him down after a struggle - during which the cop got an injury to his face.

With that, Bennett was returned to the court - and the judge set sentencing for 25th June 2022.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Crown Counsel Javier Chan and while Emerita Anderson was the defence attorney.
