The Ministry of Health and Wellness has teamed up with the Pan American Health Organization to launch the start of a series of training workshops on the Mental Health Gap Action Programme Intervention Guide for primary care physicians and nurses countrywide.
It's probably the most neglected area of public health - and the one most plagued by stigma. And after 2 years of COVID 19 isolation, experts say mental health issues are even more acute.
A release says "This has brought attention to the significant shortage of psychiatrists and mental health care providers in Belize."
The gap program hopes to scale up care for Mental, Neurological and Substance Use disorders at the primary care level.
Here's more from the launch workshop today:
The workshops will host around 50 participants and it concludes in June 2022.
