Last Saturday morning, an ideal delivery truck was robbed at gunpoint by two men on Mud Street in Belize City. When police responded, they learned that the suspects had fled into what is known as the Dike Area - a swamp which also adjoins sewage ponds. A team of SPU, Gi3 and uniform police responded and pursued the alleged robbers.
That meant wading waist deep into a dense and almost impenetrable mangrove swamp. But, after a long and difficult slog, 8 relentless officers got their suspects and recovered the stolen items. They also arrested two men Devane Thurton and Steve Crawford.
Steve Crawford pled guilty and was sentenced to 4 years. The other accused is still before the court.
It's a case closed - and today the officer commanding Eastern Division recognized the outstanding work of the officers, Sgt. Joel GRINAGE, Corporal Merry Waight, and Constables Adhir Perez, Joseph Sutherland, Travis Santos, Brandon GRINAGE, Akeem Gentle, Lazaro Catch and Jorge Jimenez.
