We report now on Police Constable Jose Carabantes, who also survived an accident, this one on the Placencia peninsula. At around midday yesterday, PC Carabantes, attached to Maya Beach Police, was riding a police-issued motorcycle. He was conducting routine patrols when he collided with another motorbike which eh was trying to overtake.

Here's more from the police spokesperson:

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Communications Officer
"We had another traffic accident with PC Carabantes at the entrance to Naia on Saturday night. He was returning from doing patrols on a police-issued motorbike when another motorbike was in front of him, driven by one Mr. Avilez. Avilez indicated turning into Naia Resort. And the same time, the police officer overtook to the left, where he collided with the other motorbike. We know that he's suffered head injuries. He was transported to the ISF

polyclinic, the Independence Polyclinic, and later by ambulance to Southern Regional, where he was listed as critical. I know since then, they have performed a C.T. scan. I haven't received the result of that scan as yet, but I know that he has regained consciousness and is communicating with the officers investigating this unfortunate incident. I must state that the other rider of the other motorbike provided assistance and got a vehicle to help transport the officer to the polyclinic. So, I just wanted to clear that up because people were saying that he fled the scene. He did not."

Constable Carabantes's colleagues in Placencia have organized a barbecue sale to help his family cover his medical bills.
