The Pallotti overpass is a popular exercise location - but on the night of Friday April 29th, it was the scene of a rape.

A 28 year old woman told police that that she was walking home at around 7:00 that night, and used the overpass. But while she was up there a man grabbed her from behind and put her in a sleeper hold. She says she lost consciousness and when she came to, she found the man rummaging through her purse. She says that's when he pounced and raped her. It took almost a month, but based on a physical description of the attacker, police detained 18-year-old Tayshaun Burns and charged him with rape.

Today the Raccoon street resident appeared before Magistrate, Tricia Pitts-Anderson where he was read a single charge of rape. Due to the nature of the offense, he was denied bail and he was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until August 22, 2022.
