And moving now to crime, there have been three murders in the Belize District since Friday morning. The latest one happened just this afternoon, sometime after 2:00.
32-year-old Carl Reneau was on Faber's Road Extension, not far from his own home, when he was shot several times. He succumbed to his injuries, continuing the trend of a bloody weekend.
And this murder is a heartbreaking one for Reneau's family, especially his stepfather who had just spoken to him earlier today on Central American Boulevard. Here's what he told us today:
Walter Sheran, Stepfather of Deceased

"I saw him this morning at 88 [store], he was buying tacos. I told them Mr. Carl Reneau, enough respect to you. The man is buying tacos this morning. I I went through Faber's Road to take a ride, I never believe, I saw the traffic blocked and ask who got hurt up there and they say it was Carl Reneau and I said what, that man talk to me this morning and tells me he was going to buy tacos. I couldn't believe that could have happened to him. As far as I know the guy, he was a nice guy. All what he does is smile and take his things to himself, but we don't know what he has in his intension, you could never know. The man died and it hurts me, because I raised him from, he was a baby right over here. Me and his mother got separated, his mother died and the house was right there and I decide to take a walk and when I move from there, someone burned down the house to flat."

"Do you think that somebody might been after your stepson?"
Walter Sheran, Stepfather of Deceased
"I believe so, because he is not innocent guy, he is a dangerous guy, don't play with that boy. The other day he got into a problem and he told me that he won his case of attempted murder and came smiling. He was so good to me, anything that he wanted to eat, he would tell me Mr. Buck, I have food here. If he buys a drink - he bought brandy and say that this is for me and you stepfather. I told him I respected him. I love them. He is my stepson and I love him."
And like Sheran said, Reneau was no stranger to the law. In 2017, 15-year-old Jaheem Mahler was shot on Iguana Street and not long after, police had arrested Reneau for his murder - but he was acquitted din 2020.
But that wasn't the only time Reneau was in court. He was charged for allegedly stabbing two 15-year-olds back in 2013, and for the murder of Brian Williams in 2008. Also in 2008, he was charged for the attempted murder in Delroy Matura.
