Police are understandably working to get even more of those weapons off the street given the very violent month of June which saw 11 murders total, 8 of them in the Belize District, all since June 10th.
And given the escalating level of violence, is the government considering a UDP style State of Emergency? Here's what the minister said when that question was put to him.
Hon. Kareem Musa - Minister of Home Affairs
"State of emergency as you know is a band-aid fix for an issue and we have certainly not rule out states of emergencies, it's not necessarily our go to formula moving forward, we do believe in long term fix for the crime problem in our country but if it gets to a point where we are seeing that the murders are happening and retaliation is happening too regular, we will have to implement the state of emergency again."
