And it is speculated that alcohol was also involved in the second Orange Walk accident. This one occurred in San Jose Village and police found the victim, 25-year-old Eden Itza, near a coconut tree, after he was flung out of the truck he was traveling in.
But unlike Cawich, Itza hadn't been the one drinking. It was reportedly the driver of the vehicle, and that caused him to lose control while overtaking on a curve.
Courtney Menzies spoke to Itza's sister in Corozal today and has this story.
25-year-old Eden Itza was in Orange Walk, waiting for a bus to take him home to San Narciso, when he was offered a ride. He jumped into the pan of a white Tacoma, but never made it home. The vehicle spun out of control in San Jose Village and Itza was flung from the pan, eventually dying on the scene.
His sister told us today that Itza hadn't realized that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated.
Amanda Estrada, Sister of Deceased
"On his way here, he was waiting for the bus and two guys in a white pickup offered him a ride and he said, okay, and he got into the pan of the pickup truck. And they were coming from there but I guess he did not notice that the guys were drinking and they were drunk more than likely and I was told that the driver was overtaking another vehicle and didn't, I guess because of the drunkness that he was, and the speed that he was coming, he knocked into a culvert and the pickup rotated and spun around and my brother flew from the pan straight up into a coconut tree and he landed on the coconut tree and landed sitting down on the floor."

"They said that the police didn't want him to move the body until the ambulance was there but by the time the ambulance arrived he had already passed away."
And while Estrada seemed to be composed, she explained that she was actually still in shock, her mind unable to fathom that her little brother had been killed so suddenly, especially since he was just a fisherman who loved his family.
Amanda Estrada, Sister of Deceased
"I never thought I would be here planning a funeral for my brother, or any of my siblings. I feel empty, I'm not are the emotions I have as yet. I am still in shock and in disbelief. For now it feels as if it's just a dream and I'm still sleeping. I guess when the time come to put him to rest then everything else would be there but for now, I'm not sure how I feel, I'm not sure if I'm even thinking straight. All I know is I feel pain and my heart is shattered into a million pieces. I'm not sure if I dislike the people he was with or if I pity them, I honestly don't know how I feel at the moment."
"He was not a perfect brother but he was one of the best ones I had, he would call me every time he could, he would message me, he's a fisherman so when he would go out, he would call and say, you know I'll bring something for you, I'll bring a fish for you or stuff like that and he would check up on us. Every birthday, he never missed my birthday, he never misses any of our birthdays."
And now, his family will have to celebrate his 26th birthday without him there.
Like Cawich, Itza also leaves behind no children.
