And while that granny-grandson duo is lucky to be alive, a father-to-be was killed yesterday afternoon in another road traffic incident. This one occurred on the Boom Road and left the family of 27-year-old Kirk Ramclam inconsolable.

And his death comes just weeks ahead of the due date for his first child. It's a tragedy that his common-law wife, Nashly Dawson, said she never expected, especially since the couple had big plans for their future.

But those plans were destroyed in the blink of an eye.

Courtney Menzies visited his home in Burrell Boom today and has this story.

A father-to-be will never have the chance to meet his baby boy after he was killed in a road traffic incident yesterday afternoon.

It was around 2:20pm while 27-year-old Kirk Ramclam was driving his motorcycle on the Boom Road. He was hit by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction near mile 2 and a half.

And while the other driver, 63-year-old Samuel Florez, survived, Ramclam succumbed to his injuries, not even a month after he and his common-law wife hosted their baby shower.

And now, Nashly Dawson says she's lost; the gentle giant she had grown to lean on has suddenly been taken away from her. And she said her last words to her husband were, "be careful."

"He just left the house 2 o'clock, I asked him to run an errand for me and I was just like sitting down, not thinking about anything, when my cousin came and give the news and I just started to cry because like in my heart, I already felt like something was wrong, like it is him."

"Then I got a call from his mom and they said an accident just happened so I was like, Kirk, he just left from here, he just left. So I said I need to go, I need to see him. So she said get ready and let's go and we will check and she she came back with a picture and I saw him lying on the ground and that was when I just cried more, I just started to bawl because I just couldn't believe it, this was the last thing I expected. Before he left, I said, babe please be careful, I told him, please drive safe."

"Everybody said don't worry because of the baby but I couldn't take it. I didn't know what to do, because I was so lost, so confused. He was a vey cautious driver and when I saw the accident, I said there's no way he's at fault. There's no way, when I saw the position and everything and how far the vehicle fly."

And he was cautious on the road because he knew what was at stake - Dawson explained that Ramclam had huge plans for them - including extended their home to accommodate the baby, and to eventually travel together. And for Ramclam, those plans even included marriage.

"Kirk was very ambitious, he was goal oriented. He had the biggest dreams and he's a person who doesn't like to stay stagnant or in a position for so long, he always want to excel, he was even going to school, helping me with my school, and he said he just wants the best. He would have always said, he even need a moment when the baby is born, he need a moment to just hold him in his arms and cry, he doesn't want anybody in the room with him. He just wants to do that for his son. He said he will try to make his son be the president of the United States. He had a lot of big dreams not for himself, he wasn't selfish, he had big plans for his family."

"He said he would wait until the baby is born then he would have done so but I said I am not ready. He asked before, but I was like, I wasn't ready, and when the baby come, he said he will marry me. And like I feel regretful that I said we're not ready. I told him we haven't weathered the worst storms so we're not ready for it."

But Ramclam's main focus was on their future baby boy, and ensuring that his wife had everything she needed. Now, she'll have to figure out how to take over from where he left off.

"He said he started at the negative and he don't want that for his son so we were trying to finish a lot in a small amount of time. And I'm so lost because he said don't worry about anything, he'll deal with anything, even the clinic appointments, that's what he did. I did little to nothing. I just make sure I'm there. Wake up in the morning, babe, you eat? Everything, he does everything for me, so. Right now, everything seems lost, waking up without him seems lost."

"He had a heart of gold. He was big but his heart was really small and soft and all mushy. Like people would have been scared because of his size or anything like that but he was so loving."

According to the police report, Florez isn't sure how the collision occurred, but he told officers that he was unconscious afterwards and didn't realize what had happened until he woke up. Police are currently investigating.
