And today a man was set free after he pleaded guilty to abetment to murder and abetment to attempted murder. 24-year-old Windell Thurton Jr has been on remand for 6 and a half years after he allegedly aided in the murder of 32-year-old Ian Blair and the attempted murder of Dr Marcos Rugama Miranda.
Thurton reportedly gave his accomplices the murder weapon back in 2016 when the crime occurred. And this morning, Justice Susan Lamb imposed a prison terms of six and a half years, which she told him he had already served during his time on remand. As such, he was set free.
One the day of the incident, two men entered Dr Rugama Miranda's home armed with knives and gun. Both Blair and Dr Miranda were stabbed by the burglars, who then stole a flat screen TV from the home. Police later found Thurton acting suspiciously. He was arrested and gave a voluntary statement to the police, which he admitted to getting two knives from his house and supplying the murderers.
Another man who had been charged back in 2016 for Blair's murder has since been deemed unfit to stand trial, though he remains behind bars.
