And while that shooting resulted in injury, another one happened this weekend on Faber's Road Extension. Police officers were on patrol in the Bingo King area when they heard the sound of a gunshot in the near vicinity. They investigated and detained a man who was in the immediate area. They then search that location and found a black.9mm pistol and an expended shell, which they suspect are connected to the man who they found in the area.
Today the police public relations officer discussed that incident and the possible up-hill battle to prosecute their main suspect:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Public Relations, Police Department
"Police were somewhere in the Fabers Road Extension area around Bingo King when they heard a single gunshot being fired. When they arrived in that area, they saw Mr. Freeman running from where they heard the shot. A search of Mr. Freeman initially didn't yield anything, but they found an expended nine-millimeter shell not too far from him. A further search of the area revealed a nine-millimeter pistol for which Mr. Freeman had no license. I know that he's detained pending charges of keeping a firearm without a gun license. I will be getting back to you as soon as he's he has been charged for it, but I know that he will be charged."
Daniel Ortiz
"Sir, I can see an immediate challenge that your investigators may have in proving this one, given that the gun wasn't found on him. The bullet wasn't found on him, but he was found in the general area. We've seen past cases where defense attorneys make the case to point out that that is reasonable doubt."
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"Daniel, that other challenge will be dealt with at the court. One, he was the one person in the immediate area. So he will have a challenge also to prove that he wasn't the person that fired them. But of course, we have no faith in the court, so we'll take that up in court."
