Turning back to crime news, there was a shooting last night at a home on La Croix Boulevard in Belize City.
7News understands that a large group of football athletes was gathered at a home celebrating their 2nd place finish when a gunman and his accomplice arrived on a motorcycle.
They opened fire on the group of people and ended up injuring 28-year-old Tevin Cacho, 28-year-old Jim Myers, and a 17-year-old minor. Here are more details from the police public relations officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Public Relations, Police Department
"Sometime around 10:17 p.m. last night, police officers that were on patrol in the La Croix Boulevard area made checks at the corner of La Croix Boulevard and McKenzie Street, where a group of men was in a yard socializing, though. Officers also made checks at the KHMH accident and emergency, where they saw Tevin Cacho, Jim Myers, and Jerwin Carcamo suffering from gunshot injuries to the body. I know that Myers and Carcamo were listed in stable condition, but Tevin Cacho was listed in critical condition. Initial investigation revealed that these men were socializing after a football event at that location when two men on a motorbike approached them. And it is alleged that the man seated on the back of the motorbike, the passenger, actually opened fire in the direction, causing several injuries to these three men. These men were transported to KHMH for treatment. We are yet to identify the persons that allegedly caused the injuries to these men. The police were in that area patrolling, and they responded rather quickly, quick enough to see the alleged assailants drive off from the scene. Because of our policy, our mandate, and the preservation of life and property, the officers deemed it more important to try to save a life than to set chase."
