And from the murder of a woman, to the abuse of a 15-day-old baby - yes, you heard right. The newborn was rushed to the hospital with injuries consistent with physical abuse and while her father initially said he had rolled off the bed, he has since been charged with harming the child.
And Troy Banner is no stranger to the law - in fact, this is the third time he's been accused of hurting one of his children. Unfortunately, in the last case, his two month old son did not survive the abuse.
But this child has a chance of survival - the question is whether she will get justice. Courtney Menzies has this story.
A disturbing report of newborn baby - not yet a month old - being rushed to the KHMH with a broken arm and bruises on its little body sent shivers down the spine of Belizeans across the country - all calling for the head of the baby's father.
That's because this isn't the first time one of Troy Banner's children have seen such injuries and while he'd previously been charged with manslaughter in the death of another; this time around, he was charged with grievous harm.

"Police was called to the Western Regional Hospital where a baby, 15 days old, who had injuries to her body. The baby was later on transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released. So far, the father, Troy Banner, has been arrested and charged for grievous harm."
Courtney Menzies:
"What makes you believe that he indeed injured this child?"
ASP Alfonso Aban
"That's based on the statement given by the mother. The investigation was carried out and he was arrested and charged."
Courtney Menzies:
"Can you say how exactly he injured the baby?"
ASP Alfonso Aban
"No, I will not go into those details about the injuries."
Courtney Menzies:
"But this is the third time this man has been accused of injuring one of his own children because I believe a previous woman that he had relations with said that the same thing happened to her child, who is a, not a baby, probably a teenager by now, will any of these cases be reopened or reinvestigated seeing as though it's like a pattern of behavior for him?"
ASP Alfonso Aban
"Well, the police will look at it and if there is need to reopen a case and if he's found to be at fault then the police will deal with it."
And the last time, Banner's two month old baby mysteriously passed away, but a post mortem revealed the infant had suffered from a broken skull. That time, Banner denied that he was at fault:

"All I just don't want them to do is; because I have a bad vibe that they are trying to fabricate stuff to try to take themselves out or whatever and make me and my girlfriend look like the bad persons. like if it was a case of abuse. But my son was only 8 weeks old. I have to be a damn fool or a crazy man to try and harm an 8 week old, my own child."
But this little girl survived, unlike her brother, and is now in the care of a foster family.
The child was taken to the hospital and the case reported by the newborn's mother, Destiny Myvett - who was also the mother of the last child that died.
The first allegation of child abuse against Banner happened some years ago and the mother reported that he had caused bruises to form on the child's body. That child is now about ten years old.
