Venezuelans Caught Being Smuggled Through Belize

According to the IOM, "more than 6 million refugees and migrants have left Venezuela as a result of the political turmoil, socio-economic instability and the ongoing humanitarian crisis."

And yesterday evening, 4 of them were caught in Belize. Around 5:30, a taxi driver from Benque Viejo was stopped a checkpoint at mile 18 on the Phillip Goldson Highway.

A search of his vehicle turned up 3 women and one man, all of Venezuealan nationality.

They were all found to have entered the country illegally and detained for Immigration screening along with their Belizean driver. Reports suggest they were likely being smuggled north for a fee.
