There are a number of very disturbing complaints of child abuse that have been made to the police in the past few days.
The most recent is in Belmopan where yesterday police responded to a report of sexual assault of a 3-year-old male. A medical examination then confirmed that the child had been penetrated. So far no arrests have been made.
And, on Tuesday in Benque Viejo, a 14-year-old minor made a report to the police that her grandfather had allegedly raped her and she claims it happened at his home in 2020. Police are investigating this case of incest.
And on Wednesday morning, there was another disturbing report, this one made by a 15-year-old in San Pedro. She reported to Police that she'd been touched inappropriately by her uncle in 2015 when she was just 6 years old and that in October of that year he went on to rape her twice.
Finally, on Monday a 12-year-old girl in Caye Caulker reported to police that she was indecently assaulted on several occasions and later raped by a family member last year in 2021. As a result of that, on August 31st, 2022 police formally arrested and charged a 52-year-old, Guatemalan, Construction Worker of Caye Caulker for two counts of rape of a child, one count of Sexual Assault, and two counts of Assault on a child under sixteen by penetration.
