Tonight, Glenford "Blackie" Arnold, a 62-year-old Belize City resident, is at the Belize Central Prison. That's after police took him to court for allegedly committing a sexual assault against an 8-year-old boy.
The child and his grandmother visited the Queen Street Police Station yesterday during the Independence Day Holiday. He reported that at around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, he was on the verandah of his family's apartment. That's when a man, who he knows as "Blackie", allegedly assaulted him by groping his privates. He immediately went downstairs to report the incident to his grandmother, who contacted the police.
After the authorities took a formal statement from the minor, the police detained Arnold and charged him with the offense of sexual assault. He was arraigned today before a senior magistrate and pleaded not guilty.
Due to the offense's serious nature and the crime's prevalence, the Senior Magistrate told Arnold that she would not be granting him bail in the first instance. Instead, he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 21, 2022, his next court date.
