Plues Street is a narrow strip of concrete pavement that can fit only one vehicle going in one direction. But that street in an already impoverished area is currently being made even more unsightly by the mountain of garbage that sits on the corner with South Street.

And according to one resident, attorney Norman Rodriguez, not only does the garbage make it difficult to drive on the already narrow street, but it also invites rodents to the neighborhood.

Today, he made a plea to the Belize City Council to remedy the problem.

Norman Rodriguez, Resident, Plues Street
"I am doing this one as a sort of community service. You yourself had a hard time getting around that corner, you couldn't even make the turn because of the garbage and it's a mixture of dangerous garbage, at least for the vehicles, the wheels. I'm tired of sending message and putting things on Facebook, I'm hoping that by me saying this to the Belize City Council, for God's sake, clean the place and when you done clean it, set one of your special constable or somebody to prevent people from throw garbage, it's becoming a mess, no vehicles can't come around the corner there."

Courtney Menzies
"How long has that been there?"

Norman Rodriguez, Resident, Plues Street
"It's going for like three to four weeks now. They usually would come and clean it after a few days but the moment the truck leaves, you would see people start putting garbage there again, we can't allow this to happen. Look at the street, look how it looks, it's bad for an already dilapidated environment."

Courtney Menzies
"So, this is a constant thing?"

Norman Rodriguez, Resident, Plues Street
"It's a constant thing, I'm telling you if they come and clean it right now, within fifteen twenty minutes, you will see people start throwing garbage there again, it has to be curbed. They must do something about it because eventually it will be like when I first came here 25, 30 years ago when the street was blocked by garbage."

Courtney Menzies
"And not only is it dangerous, it's probably hazardous to health."

Norman Rodriguez, Resident, Plues Street
"Yes definitely, the rats, the roaches, the sick pigeons, and I don't know what other kind of insects are in there, but it's very dangerous overall for the environment because it harbors the rodents."

We'll be following up with the City Council for comment.
