He is a former BDF soldier charged for the murder of his ex-common-law wife, but, tonight, 31 year old Albert Moreira is a free man. That's after Supreme Court Justice Ricardo O'Neil Sandcroft today told him he has no case to answer; within seconds he walked off that high profile murder - free for the first time since he was remanded in 2018.

In early October of 2018, 36 year old mother of two Felicia James went missing. Her badly decomposed body was found on two weeks later about 2 1/2 Miles into the Coastal Road near La Democracia Village. Her missing vehicle was found burnt up days later.

Moreira - who was an active soldier at the time - was the last one to have been seen with her but the crown did not have the testimony of two main supporting witnesses to confirm this. They had both allegedly seen Moreira with James shortly around the time she went missing, but the witnesses turned hostile on the stand, refusing to identify Moreira in court.

With that, the prosecution only had the circumstantial evidence of another witness who linked Moreira to the burning of his ex's vehicle - but the link was not conclusive.

In view of that thin evidence, and two hostile witnesses, the Attorney for Moreira, Oscar Selgado made a no case submission last week Thursday, September 29, 2022 which was upheld by Justice Sandcroft today at his ruling.

The Prosecution had called a total of 22 witnesses in the one week that the trial was on before the Supreme Court. Moreira's attorney was Oscar Salgado.

James had been with Moreira for 3 years and they shared a 2 year old son. At the time of the murder, James' aunt said the relationship had been abusive.
