And there was another road traffic incident on Sunday evening, this one involving a cop who is currently facing interdiction. The incident occurred on the San Felipe Road and when police arrived on the scene, they saw a red motorcycle with extensive damages. They then learnt that the driver of that motorcycle, 20-year-old Jerry Cordova, had to be rushed to the hospital by villagers after a pickup truck collided into the rear of his cycle, causing him to lose control and crash into a drain. The pickup, which was driven by 42-year-old police officer Artermio Ical, did not stop and Ical did not render aid.

Today, the police press officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood told us that Ical was later picked up at his home in August Pine Ridge.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

"He was detained from his home in August Pine Ridge Village a few minutes after doing so. The investigators also found out that he ran a checkpoint that was set up by transport officers prior to knocking down one Jerson Cardova off a motorbike whilst escaping from the traffic checkpoint. Police then went to his home where they detain him, they took the vehicle that he was using into the station to be processed and as it is he will be arraign this morning Orange Walk magistrate court."

"I know that his letter for his interdiction is being processed as we speak. I know that he didn't give any blood and urine sample and he will be charge for that also, but I know that he was not cooperating at the time. We managed to detained him. The accident happened in San Lazaro Village where he knocked a 20 year-old Jerson Cardova off a motorbike. Mr. Cardova is still receiving treatment. His condition has not been upgraded from stable. We know that medical officers say that they will keep him for observation."
