A burglar broke into former police Commissioner Allen Whylie's house in Lemonal Village on Sunday and stole four guns; tonight police have recovered all of them.

Whylie is presently out of the country, and on Sunday the caretaker who does daily checks on his house found that the grill door had been pried open and the house burglarized.

Whylie told police that he'd left five guns inside: a 12 gauge shotgun, a 16 gauge shotgun, a.22 rifle, a 9 millimeter Sig Sauer pistol and a 9 millimeter Glock pistol.

Police only found the Glock still inside, and launched an investigation to recover the others. Today the Deputy head of NCIB told the media what they found:

Supt. Gerald Jones, Deputy Head, NCIB
"Police have since recovered 3 of the firearms in the bypass area for Orange Walk - within Orange Walk jurisdiction sorry - and one next to the mother in law residence within the Lamanal Village. We have one person detained; he's pending charges for the offence committee. We know that he's a resident of the said village. I am not too certain if he is a person who knows the layout of the residence of Mr. Whylie, however we did in fact do our investigation and that led to him being detained."

Reporter
"Did Mr. Whylie follow whatever regulations need to be followed in regards to firearms?"

Supt. Gerald Jones, Deputy Head, NCIB
"We believe that he did in fact follow the protocols when it comes to the safe keeping of the firearms, we will continue following up on that safety issue. If needs be where he would have to be spoken to, we will just do that and move on."

A television and an assortment of liquor were also stolen. We should note that the burglary occurred when the village was under a blackout.
