Tonight Belize City resident Justo Augustine is homeless after a fire - which authorities have alleged he set - destroyed the shack he'd built in his father's backyard.
And this morning He told 7 News he's still trying to figure out what caused the fire.
Justo Augustine, Victim Of Fire

"Yesterday when I was going out, um, the house caught fire but I don't know how it caught fire exactly right but they had already told me they would burn up the house with me already."
Cherisse Halsall:
"Who told you that?"
Justo Augustine, Victim Of Fire
"A voice in my head told me the next time it's that we will burn it up with you."
Cherisse Halsall:
"We understand that the individual who lived in the dwelling may be mentally challenged."
Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor

"You are perfectly right, yesterday was an unfortunate incident which could have been disastrous but we are thankful that it wasn't in terms of physicality, what we learnt was that fuel in excess of 10, 15, 20 gallons were being stored in this house, um, we established that the building didn't have any electricity, um, this was one that wasn't even supplied with one, his primary means of light was by that of a candle unfortunately because it was alleged that he is a mentally challenged individual, neighbours around saying that he has been having a one on one conversation with himself, while in this structure he was playing with something, a lighter or a candle and neighbours reportedly heard a bang before smoke and flames were observed like I mentioned earlier fortunately for hi he managed to exit the building before receiving bodily harm to himself."
"We really couldn't ascertain why he had those fuel of such quantity in the building, we tried to get something from him but I mean it was like we were talking to ourselves because he went into this shell shock mode whereby he was like ah uh, what did you say that kind of thing."
Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir given the circumstances and the status of this man, no one will be charged for arson?"
Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor
"Well, I will leave that up to the police department if they so choose to make a charge and given his state, I think we'll have to see where he goes from there if he will be recommended to a mental institution or something like that."
And Station Supervisor Kenneth Mortis gave special mention to Augustine's neighbour who he says acted as firefighters even before his crew arrived, and they were so successful in fact that when the firetruck got there all it did was extinguish flames that were already dying down.
