But less than 24 hours before, there was another dramatic blaze that was - again - due to an alleged illegal electrical connection.
This one took place in Taylor's Alley at around 4:00 pm on Saturday at what its residents call the Industrial Centre. The victim, Brent Garoy had just spent the last week carving the trophies for the La Ruta Maya competition.
But this morning when our 7 News team arrived at the partially destroyed home, he told us how his world was turned upside down when a malfunctioning fan lit his upper flat on fire.
Voice of: Brent Garoy, Victim Of Fire
"My girlfriend was doing a little hair and thing downstairs here with us as well. I was doing a little work downstairs there for La Ruta Maya. I'm the one who builds the La Ruta Maya trophies and things dig but my girl hollered fire, right and when I ran upstairs it was the fan that was on fire on the ground. So, I guess it was the fan that fell on the ground and then it stopped just stopped and it ran hot and it looks like that caused the fire."
"I have three kids, he wasn't upstairs, nobody was upstairs at the moment."
Cherisse Halsall:
"How are you even wrapping your mind around recovering from this?"
Voice of: Brent Garoy, Victim Of Fire
"Well, I called and I contacted a two-three people, what, let's say I have to just wait a couple days or so for a little assistance or so. I'm not sure it really will happen the way it's supposed to happen but I won't give up I will push my bottle and it will happen for me again. I will build back my place."
