Last night, we told you that PG Town Councillor, Moses Cal, was detained for allegedly punching a woman several times in the side of her face and her head- eventually splitting her ear open. A doctor has since certified the injuries as wounding.
And his own party, the PUP was quick to issue a press release, calling for his resignation - which would trigger a bye-election. The PM said while there's not much they can do, they're hoping he does step down.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Our party was very clear and we answered very quickly especially in Women's month that we have zero tolerance for violence against women and that's what we are asking to, he should resign as a member of the Toledo Town Council, we can't force him, but certainly we can do something from our part within the party."
Reporter:
"What about kicking him out of the party?"

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Well, that's another matter that we will definitely discuss, but as I said, we have zero policy when it comes to the issue of violence against women."
According to the party's chairman, Henry Charles Usher, Cal was sent a formal letter today, and they are expecting a response. He also noted that since municipal elections are in the year's time, they don't see the need for a bye-election.
