It made major news back in 2018 when 64 year old businessman and boat maker Mario Guerrero was killed - allegedly by some men he had been socializing with.

Well, the man accused of the crime, Allen Felix walked free today after 5 years on remand. Justice Sandcroft said the crown did not prove the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt, so he acquitted him.

And they couldn't prove the case because the most compelling piece of evidence, which was surveillance video of the last 5 hours of Guerrero's life, was ruled inadmissible. That's because in the trial, the crown brought a copy of the DVD with the footage which would allegedly prove Felix is the murder suspect. But the court only accepts originals, so Justice Sandcroft ruled the copy DVD inadmissible when the crown was unable to prove that the chain of custody was not broken.

With that, Felix who had been on remand for more than 5 years from the age of 40, bolted out through the doors of the courtroom and straight across into the Battlefield Park where he let out a loud roar.

Back in 2018, after Guerroro's murder, surveillance videos showed that the boat captain was killed by persons he knew well and was socializing with until 5:00 in the morning at his home in Sunset Park. Surveillance footage captured Guerrero and one of the men reportedly Allen Felix having an exchange of words. The two then went under the tent in his yard to sit and continued to talk and that is when Guerrero was beaten with, among other things, a bar stool.
