But what happens for Laddie's family now?
Earlier this month we told you about negotiations around the settlement for Derek Uh's death, a death that also came at the hands of the police. But while his mother is now negotiating settlement for an undisclosed amount, Laddie's case is a bit more complex, that's because the family who raised him never legally adopted him and so would not be entitled to compensation for his death.
Nevertheless, we put the question to the Bradley - Fleming's in the moments after the sentencing. They say they have no interest in suing the government for their loss.
Emil Bradley, Laddie's Foster Dad
"Well, from our side from this side of the family, no. No we are not filing any suit or anything. It's done here with us and we will just continue doing what we are doing with the Laddie's foundation."
"I must say I have seen some improvement from the department's part they are trying to do some different training and so. So, it's making a change and this is what we will try to continue so that these changes happen so that we do not have a reoccurrence of such."
Bryony Fleming:

"And it's not only the department, it's all of our jobs to raise our children properly, you know we continue to blame the government we continue to blame the police officers, but we need to raise our children properly with love and affection and be there for them."
"Emil was a cop for 21 years, it's not an easy road being a police officer, you know they are put into situations they are out there fighting crimes for us, they are making sure that we keep safe. So, you know I have a lot of respect for police officers."
Laddie's biological mother Linda Gillett, however, retained legal guardianship and so would be entitled to compensation from the government.
