And turning back now to the PGIA, our news team got a bit of a shocker as we were preparing to leave when a very flustered Brazilian man ran up to one of our colleagues demanding to be interviewed.
He was in the process of being deported and sent back to his native Brazil after being picked up in Orange Walk while trying to make an illegal run for the U.S. border and after an undetermined stay at the Kolbe Foundation.
And, while he struggled to speak English he was adamant about making allegations of the human rights abuses, he says, he and others were put through by Belizean authorities.
We reached out to Prison C.E.O. Murillo for comment on the allegation but he declined to comment and said only that, "All illegal immigrants are visited by their Embassies and I have not received any complaints from them regarding this!"
