At the top of the news we told you that G.O.B. may at this very moment be considering its next state of emergency, and if you heard attorney Bradley talk today you'd feel that it was imminent. He maintains that charges against his client Underwood are old and trumped up.
He also went into the racial realities of an S.O.E. and the trap he feels it is for the City's young people.
Dickie Bradley, Attorney-At-Law
"Can I tell you Mr. Underwood told me that when he reached the Queen Street police station, his charge sheet is already made up. There's a list of people that they're going to progressively pick up and lock up, and they will all be members of a gang. Because how do you find these invisible shooters that appear from nowhere and then disappear? How, you don't have enough cameras on the lamp post. They don't have enough snitches in this society. They do not have enough patrols who keep up with this is a very, very serious problem."
"But we are speaking of a very, very serious social and economic problem that has brought about the taking for granted that people are killing each other. The people who pull the triggers are not the ones who have the beef around. They are the shotters. They're the executioner. They take instruction. They want to get into the gang, prove it by take out so and so."
"So let's just look at something we've been grabbing on to the young people, particularly the black poor people of the society, and locking them up on any excuse. If there is a shooting tonight, tomorrow, you will see police checkpoints all over the city. And for the weekend you would drive from your work to try and get to every time we pass through three or four checkpoints."
"This has not been working. This is a knee jerk reaction to a very serious problem. So listen, let's not be fooled by rounding up people and charging them for gang members. You know what? Charge for a gang member you have a tattoo. So there was a case going on right now. Person has a tattoo on his back. How are you displaying gang paraphernalia?"
"How are you displaying your gang membership? When you have a tattoo on your back? Or chest? They tear your shirt and take a picture. This is a very serious matter. Rounding up people and locking them up for for listen for the real criminal element. That's not a big problem. They have been to that place, they sweat out the time and come back out and they knew who they will deal with for whatever it is."
"If you are a snitch, if you are somebody where anything, then what if you're innocent? Well, the law is to protect the innocent. And how do you protect the innocent when the police are making more retaliations."
We'll keep following this story and let you know whether Alex Underwood gets his bail.
