Belmopan - based Gospel artist Mervin Budram came under attack today on social media platforms, after three women spoke out against him, alleging that Budram molested them when they were children. One of the women - who is the daughter of a prominent pastor - claims that he was part of her church group when the first incident happened. At the time, she says she was 11 and he was over 20 years old. In response to this first post, another female claimed that Budram inappropriately touched her when she was 16, alleging that he took her to a deserted area in Belmopan one night and sexually assaulted her. According to social media sources, 5 girls have indicated to one another that they experienced the same type of encounter with Budram. We reached out to Budram for a comment today from him but got no response.
We also understand that another female spoke out a few moments ago claiming that Budram molested her friend when she was 13 years old during the time that he served as a youth leader in Roaring Creek village. She claims that she walked in on Budram sexually assaulting the child in the kitchen of their family home.
But - even though the claims are serious and credible - at this time it's just social media testimonials. There won't be any police action without a criminal complaint and we understand that at least one of the women plans to make a police report shortly.
We know that the DPP's office has also been apprised of the allegations in the posts and she has asked police to follow up. We will keep tracking this story closely.
