If you've been hearing a lot about your co-workers or family being knocked down by a bad flu - it could be COVID.

Yes, the virus that stopped the world for two years hasn't gone anywhere, it's just become what's called endemic - meaning it's just one of the flu viruses in regular rotation - and this one is picking up traction in the summer.

Today the Director of Public Health and Wellness Melissa Diaz gave the media an update via Zoom:

Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa, Director of Health and Wellness
"From May, June and July, we have been seeing fluctuations of cases, so not necessarily a significant increase that we are concerned about. But COVID is a virus. COVID is endemic in country, it's in the mix globally. And so we do know that it will continue to spread. The main and common symptoms that people are presenting with are sore throats, headaches, more upper respiratory tract illness."

"And I just want to make mention that we are not seeing any increase in hospitalization at this time due to COVID 19. In fact, I have the latest information and it's just showing that mainly the districts of Belize District and Cayo have reported the highest the highest cases with a higher positivity rate than Corozal, Orange Walk, Stann Creek and Toledo."

"It's not anything that we would say that it has become a significant concern for us at this time for for any of our six districts. Our advice remains."
