A Chinese Businessman and his common law wife were busted with 46.7 grams of Crystal Meth yesterday by Ladyville police. It happened during a search at their home where the cops uncovered 5 plastic bags containing a shiny white substance.
31 year old Zhichao Tan and his common law 24 year old Honduran national, Jenssy Cardona appeared unrepresented in court today and were charged jointly for the possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. Tan pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted to the courts that the drugs were for his personal consumption and not to supply anyone.
He claims that life has been stressful for him and this was his first time buying drugs in Belize which he paid $1,000 dollars for.
The court imposed a fine on Tan since he is a first time offender. He was fined $6,000 dollars which he must pay by January 4th 2024 or face 2 years imprisonment. The charges against his common law wife Cardona, were withdrawn and she was free to go, but ended up back in the courtroom for an immigration offense. She pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal entry into Belize and was fined $ 1000 which she must pay forthwith.
