Ten Years For Chopping Dad To Death

In January of 2022, 23-year-old Olvin Rivas chopped his own father to death in San Roman Village. He was reacting after the 52 year old Salvador Amaya Rivas had beat his mother and choked his little brother.

Rivas was charged with murder - but pleaded down to Manslaughter.

On Monday, Justice Antonette Moore sentenced Olin Rivas to 10 years for the patricide.

Rivas gave a caution statement saying that his father tried to take away his phone, quote, "I then get vex and grabbed a machete. I chased him and right there I start chopping him." End quote.

The case was prosecuted by Javier Chan and the defence was conducted by attorney John Nembhard.
