The Government of Belize's decision to cut ties with Israel has caused blowback from many who oppose the decision.

One criticism has been that the government didn't do the same when it came to the invasion and bombing of Ukraine, and neither has it acted against Venezuela's threat to Guyana's territory.

We did ask the Foreign Minister about it two days ago:

Eamon Courtenay, Foreign Minister

"On the question of Russia and Ukraine, Belize has been absolutely clear and consistent. We have rejected the illegal war, the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia and that is our position. On the situation of Venezuela and Guyana, CARICOM has spoken out, we have spoken out along with CARICOM."

"We have spoken yesterday to the Venezuelan ambassador primarily on this issue. So the Belizean people can rest assured that the Government of Belize has made clear to our friend Venezuela; one that we believe that the integrity of Guyana must be respected by Venezuela. We have made clear to Venezuela that we believe that there whatever dispute they have with Guyana should be settled peacefully and we have made clear to Venezuela that we are friends to both countries and we hope that any further action that is taken by those 2 countries will be done in a peaceful way."
