Kevin Bernard, Ministry of Health and Wellness

"One of the main important reasons for us being at the global health forum, and this is my second year there. One Taiwan has assisted many counties across the world and during covid they played a very significant role in assuring many countries and Belize was one of those beneficiaries and so we also went there to show case our experience to showcase what we had to endure during covid but at the same time to express in a unified manner our support for Taiwan but at the same time to see how Can Taiwán continue to assist Belize in terms of the health reforms in achieving universal health coverage you know there have been discussions between us and in Taiwan in how they can assist us even in our nursing program. Scholarships for nursing where they can come into Belize and offer some of that support so there are a lot of things it's not just about us going to a conference so it's about us looking for opportunities for Belizeans out there. I also had the opportunity to meet with some Belizean students at the embassy where they themselves discussed some issues in terms of when they return you know the opportunities that could be given to them the whole process of the medical council and internship and so it was a whole barrage of issues that we looked at but at the same time by our presence at the Taiwan global health forum along with many other countries I think there were about 200 other countries that were present there so we had a wonderful turnout and it's really for us to Inter exchange ideas and look at policies where we altogether, countries that were there took out a statement a declaration in terms of their commitment in health in ensuing that we look at digital health looking at the comeback that we have to do after the pandemic looking at universal health coverage and other things so those are issues that over the two days that we were there we were able to discuss and of course on the third day we took a tour of Taiwan to look at the health facilities and the things they offer and how they can assist countries like Belize."
