Tonight two men who allegedly fired at police officers are behind bars. 23-year-old Allen Anderson Jr and and 24-year-old Joshua Jones Jr appeared in court this evening where they were jointly read a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm on an officer.
Reports are that on Sunday night in Ladyville, officers responded to a fight on Wood Pecker Road. When they arrived, the two accused men were standing at the corner of the street and opened fire on them. PC Kerian Bowen fired back, but no one was injured. The officers pursued the suspects and caught Anderson. The next day, they went to Jones' home and detained him.
Jones pleaded guilty while Anderson pleaded not guilty. Jones was fined $1,000 which he must pay by March 2024, in default ten months imprisonment.
Anderson then asked to change his plea, but changed his mind when his attorney, Richard "Dickie" Bradley showed up. Still, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 18th. His attorney plans to file a bail application.
And despite Jones being fined, he still ended up spending the night in jail after the court ordered that he pay an outstanding balance of $360 before he could be released, which he was unable to meet.
