Tonight, an investigation into a rape complaint continues against a well known attorney. The alleged incident took place about a week and a half ago at the attorney's home, but it's still unclear if charges will be brought.
According to the police, they're waiting on the DPP to make the call. This has led many in the public to believe that they are protecting him - whether it is because he is a lawyer or because he carries some influence in society.
But today the DPP clarified that the delay is simply because they are still gathering more evidence.
Cheryl Lynn Vidal, Director of Public Prosecution
"I know that the police had reported that they had sent the statements to the DPP, I think at the time what they did not tell them that when those statements were sent, it was made very clear that other evidence was forthcoming and we have been receiving additional evidence, just today we received additional evidence so I cannot make a decision until I have everything before me. It is not the ordinary case where it would have been possible just on the statements that we provided on the outset to make a determination."
