Yesterday you heard the minister's perspective on police vehicles getting damaged in a number of accidents in December - he says many of them were not the police's fault.

But, whatever the case, the department still finds itself without a vehicle to patrol and respond to the public.

Today the Compol went in depth on what happens to damaged police vehicles from repairs to the finances. tThe compol says it all depends on who is culpable.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"Well we have done a lot of training, defensive tactic driving with our officers and we are seeing though that while there are some instances where the accidents are the faults of the police, there are many instances where it is not the police fault. We have issues where drunk driving is an issue and when accidents occur and the driver is at fault, or is a drunk driver. The insurance company does not compensate and so many those people are men of straws you can't get nothing from them so to get the vehicle back in good repairs the government has to foot the bill it's unfair but we need the vehicles and so we would normally foot the bill to get the vehicles and good repair. When the police officers are at fault, then the police officers would have to pay to fix the vehicle."
