Cops Chased Driver, Passenger Opens Fire

A police vehicle was shot by an unknown gunman last night in rural Belize. It happened at around 8:00 when the police set after a Geo Prizm that had taken a back road to elude a checkpoint at the Boom Roundabout. They chased it all the way to an area near the Prison where the car came to a stop and the passenger got out and opened fire on the police vehicle. None of the police officers were injured, but their patrol pickup was damaged on the passenger side windshield and front hood.

Police returned fire, but the shooter hopped back into the car and raced off towards the direction of Burrell Boom Village. Police pursued the car but it disappeared after passing the Burrell Boom bridge.
