Our next four stories are - in one way or the other - about gun licenses.
First, James Valerio. On Thursday night in Punta Gorda he was shot by 36 year old police officer Felix Fernandez.
This was the culmination of a personal dispute because the cop was on a date with Valero's ex. He reported that Valerio had been harassing them and then picked up a rock to stone him - and he fired his licensed 9mm pistol.
For that, Officer Fernandez was charged for Aggravated assault with a Firearm - which we know to be an automatic remand offense.
But Valerio today said he wanted the charge to be attempted murder. He told PGTV why:
James Valerio, Shot by Police
"Well, I am not satisfied because the man didn't get charged for murder or at least a different charge because he shot me from the back and when a man shot you from the back is because they have intention to kill you. Why didn't he got charged for attempted murder."
"What really happened, what I don't understand is that the young man got charged, but he didn't get charged like a criminal. If it was me who shot him, I would have been in jail right away. When this officer is living comfortable upstairs of the police station. I don't know how a man could charge for a weapon and still in PG. He is supposed to be in jail."
Reporter
"They have also charged you for damaging the police man's property. How do you respond to that?"
James Valerio, Shot by Police
"The police man doesn't really know how that vehicle come around and how could I get charged for my damage to property when the vehicle is in my name?"
Valerio was charged for damaging his ex Harriet Blanco's windshield on her Dodge Caliber - which as you just heard - he claims is his. We'll leave that one there.
