And Minister of Agriculture Jose Mai is surely not cueing the string music. He made an angry post before sunrise this morning against an un-named multinational who he says is trying to destroy his name with a relentless ad campaign you've probably seen on the news.
The quite remarkable post says, quote, "It is amazing to see the despicable, low- down actions that the multinationals would resort to as a sign of despair!
The recent ads aired on Channel 7 attacking me and my family's personality ARE NOT THE WORKS OF ANY POLITICAL PARTY, INCLUDING THE OPPOSITION!!
They are certainly not the works of Channel 7 either!!
Our research clearly indicates that these personal attacks come from the PRIVATE SECTOR. It comes from a MULTINATIONAL," end quote. And while he doesn't name the multinational - there is only one in his neck of the woods - and Mai warns them, saying, quote,
"You have turned this into a personal attack... you can continue investing on ads instead of paying the farmers what is just!! ….You have no place in the hearts of the Belizean people! You are detested, despised. You are the scourge of the earth.
You have access to money, the best attorneys money can buy among other things …
And, I have thousands of cane farmers, I have thousands of cattle farmers, I have thousands of grain producers, thousands of vegetable producers, I have my colleagues in Cabinet...but the most powerful of all... I have God on my side!!!!!
Shame on you Mr Multinational and bunch of Belizean Brown Nosers!!"
Wow. Quite a rant! Mai did not respond to our request for an interview today.
