A fisherman from Copperbank village in the Corozal District has been hit with a heavy fine after he was caught with undersized conch.

One month ago, Fisheries Officers caught 50 year old Miguel Cobb with 76 underweight conch.

Today in magistrates court wasted no time pleading guilty to a single charge of possession of undersized conchs. He was fined $5,000 dollars plus an additional $50 dollars per illegal product which amounted to another $3,800 dollars - for a total of $8,8005 in fines.

In accordance with the fisheries act all conch must exceed 7 1/2 ounces in weight for capture and sale.
