For Cattouse that is partly the same portfolio she had last term, but she'd hoped to spend this one with a stint as deputy mayor. And Mayor, Bernard Wagner, supported her. But seven of her colleagues voted for Allan Pollard for a third time.

Today we asked her about the bittersweet feeling of winning the March sixth election, but losing the deputy position.

Kaya Cattouse, Councillor

"It's definitely a great feeling. I think that the work that we have been doing over the past 3 years definitely showed at the polls. The residents were overwhelmingly supportive. About two weeks ago for the elections. And that just shows that the work that weve been doing, they want us to continue."

Reporter:
"And you came in, I believe, second in the polls. The people seem to really love you they have alot of confidence in you but I noticed that you went up for deputy mayor for the third time and you lost for the third time to your colleague, Mr. Pollard. What was that like for you to not be able to best him yet again?"

Kaya Cattouse, Councillor
"Certainly being defeated in a in a what we would call a competition like that is its politics playing out and politics at its best. I guess my colleagues were just not ready to have a female deputy mayor."

As you saw Cattouse was in her cycling wear, and later in the news she'll tell us how she's preparing for the Women's Cross Country.
