And as a result of all the gun violence, reports reaching 7News says a State of Emergency was quietly put into effect today. The purpose is to detain gang affiliated persons to contain any possible retaliation for Friday's murder of Elwin "Bobo" Lewis. But it is also a response to the surging number of murders, which currently stands at 26, compared to 19 during the same period last year. It's a 37% increase and the security forces are determined to reign in the spike. The last state of emergency was implemented in July 2023. There has been no announcement made of this one.
