This morning, San Ignacio residents awoke to the news of a murder.
There was a fatal stabbing in a popular park and it has left the victim's family with more questions than answers.
Jomarie Lanza headed West today to find out more:
It's a popular park for morning joggers getting in their exercise, and a shortcut for students on their way to school, until this morning, when the Victor Galvez Stadium turned into the scene of a murder. The body of 44 year old Jose Mejia also known as Kosho was found laid out on these benches with multiple stab wounds and a slit throat. It's a savage end for this town resident and now his sister who says she looked after him like a mother is left to deal with the shock of his death.

"Apart from my sister I was like a mom because in San Ignacio everyone knows us and knows how we grow up so it was just me and him and you know when anything happened they would come to me you know. When he would get sick I used to take care of him. I did everything I needed to do and I think as a parent you know apart from being my brother I considered him and had a huge responsibility on my shoulder with him."
Mejia was an alcoholic, as confirmed by his family members who believe that it's possible someone may have used his addiction to manipulate him and lure him out to the stadium, given that it wasn't his usual place of socialization

"I think everyone who had loved ones that struggle with alcohol could understand my plight my situation and how difficult it is because sometimes he got sober and sometimes he just relapsed and it was very difficult but the only thing I can honestly say is that he did not merit for someone to take his life because you know who knew Jose knew that yes he drinks and like give trouble but apart from that he was not evil he wouldn't harm someone he wouldn't do someone else what they did to him last night so that is bugging me because I want to make sure that his death doesn't stay like that because he had someone who loved him. I loved him and I cared for him and like me I am so grateful there were others who were there for him that they would look beyond his condition and be there to help him."
Despite Mejia's struggle to overcome his addiction, his sister says she never gave up hope on him.

"It's a great loss because it's like for me like the last family member I have. You know I buried my grandparents, the parents we grew up with and now I have to bury my brother. And that's really rough, it's really hard so whoever took his life if they have any conscience, if there is anything sane thought in their mind, I want them to know that they actually took a huge piece of me that goes along with Jose. So that is very hard and difficult."
So far police have no suspects.
So far, police have not issued a report on the murder.
