Last week we told you that Justice Derick Sylvester was deciding the evidence against accused murderer Earl Baptist. He is accused of the 2022 shooting murder of 32-year-old, Leslie Gillett - the storeowner who was killed inside his business place, Matilda's Shop in Burrell Boom.
A critical piece of evidence was the security footage showing the murder. Baptist, gave an alibi from the dock and said he was with his father and common-law wife but called none one to testify on his behalf.
Today, Justice Sylvester pronounced him guilty of murder.
He noted that what made him sure of the identity of Baptist is the fact that the footage shown in the shooting murder was clear.
Justice Sylvester has set July 15, 2024 for mitigation pleas to be heard on behalf of Baptist.
