He was kidnapped by the state and delivered to the US Department of Justice more than two decades ago - and on Saturday, former George Street gang boss Enrique George Herbert was returned to Belize.
Herbert was convicted of drug trafficking charges in the state of New York in 2004 for conspiring to import 12 tons of cocaine into the United States. He was later sentenced to serve 33 years and 4 months.
Well, on Saturday, 21 years and a few months after he was deported back to Belize.
He arrived at around noon and was taken to the Queen Street police station where he was processed by the GI3. He will be signing in as a part of the deportee monitoring program.
In the years after he was handed over to US authorities, the Supreme Court of Belize found that he was unlawfully kidnapped by the government for handover to U.S. authorities. His family was awarded damages and government was ordered to give an undertaking to have him returned to Belize.
