Former City Councillor Deannie Requena is recovering after she was attacked and stabbed on Sunday. Tonight, her assailants are behind bars after they were arraigned in court. 41-year-old Burton Clare was charged with two counts of deadly means of harm and wounding. Meanwhile 21-year-old Kareem Allen was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and theft. Both men were unrepresented.

No plea was taken from Clare, and Allen pleaded not guilty. However, due to the nature of the offenses, both men were remanded. They will be back in court on September 30th.

As we reported, Requena was heading home after visiting her boyfriend at the Belize Central Prison when a vehicle ran into her and tried to run her off the road. Both assailants exited the vehicle and Clare - who is her brother in law - attacked Requena, while Allen pointed a gun at her and stole her purse, which contained $3,000. Dollars in cash and other items. They then stabbed her vehicle tires, broke her windshield, and then stabbed her in the face and left. They were later intercepted at a checkpoint along the George Price Highway.
